What a magnificent salmon! A truly huge fish for Iceland too.

At 115cm long and fat the scales here Estimate the weight of your salmon give the following sizes:

Norwegian Institute
15.7 kg or 34.5 lb

River Dee (Scotland)
16.33 kg or 36.00 lb

Icelandic Institute of Freshwater Fisheries
Off the scale! 114cm = 14.6 kg or 32.1 lb

Environment Agency of England & Wales
15.1 kg or 33.3 lb

++++

It certainly looks like a 15kg+ fish! A beauty. Is that a record for Iceland?

Good catch nevertheless.

Regards

SM

yes - wonderful fish and photo.

I have added a calculator that takes girth into account using the formula:

(girth * girth * length / 775)

Also probably the best by Prof L Lum.

(length * length * girth * 0.0007)

Your fish give 36.3lbs which looks about right to me!

Anyway, if any one else know a good formula I shall add. :-)

Thanks for your comments

well it is hard to talk about records when you dont scale the fish

and I know of one 41 pounder from laxa caught on a fly many many years ago
but it is my personal belive that this fish is the biggest fly caught salmon for many many years in Iceland
