Default upturn vs downturn eye

there are so many hook types out there. I know I can tie a nymph on a dry fly hook and catch fish. Downturned eyes vs straight don't seem to make much difference at my level of fishing. Hook weight (wire size) seems to be the noticable element in performance. I can see how on dries that a down...
