With the start of the 2011 season we now have results for the 2010 one.
Salmon and grilse numbered just over the 4000 (65% returned) and the sea-trout recovered to a catch of 1300.

The salmon catch is the fourth best since 1952 and all of these four have been in the last ten years.

Despite many beats being un- let during the sea-trout season in June a respectable 1300 were caught (80% returned) up from a low of 590 in 2009.

This year the voluntary code asks for all salmon to be returned before May 31.
Our spring numbers reched 1000 fish by the end of May in 1955 and again in 1976. This now averages about 200 so they need all the help they can get.

Our 2011 season kicked off with an opening day ceremony held at Turriff Angling Association where just under 100 people turn up to see Mrs P Ingleby bless the river and her brother V Beamish take the first cast.
An added attraction was the New Morison trophy which will be presented annually to the angler catching the biggest fly caught salmon off the river each year to celebrate the capture of the record breaking fly caught fish off the Deveron in 1924 at 61 lb which still holds that record today.
It was launched by Dr Aly Bain MBE the renowned Shetland musician.
The day was sponsored by Chivas Brothers and 18 yr old chivas was provided in abundance to the crowd.
Full details and pictures can be found at River Information 2011

We had TWO fresh fish off the river on opening day. Mr Sandy Bremner caught the first on the fly off Mountblairy , followed by the second off Turriff an hour later. Since then despite high and coloured water we have had two more off Turtory and one on the 17 February was sea-liced.

An excellent start so far and high hopes for another great season.
