Default Taw report

Well there goes another season, good in parts bad in others. A long dry period didn't help early on but rain arrived and so did a few fish. The lower river did produce fish during the first spates but most fish ran straight through, fish were caught above Umberleigh but not what you would expect to see after such a dry spell, although the net operating in the Taw did have a few good tides and reported seeing plenty of fish. Up river during good conditions fish were just not showing, we certainly didn't have the numbers we've enjoyed in recent seasons although the Mole produced some good sport indicating that what fish ran kept their heads down! The best fish of the season was a reported 25lber caught on the lower river, the biggest seatrout a 32''/13 - 14lb fish caught on a middle beat at the back end. Brown trout numbers have been very encouraging this year with some nice well conditioned fish having been caught, a sign that invertibrate numbers are improving. We now await the completion of works to what was Head Weir and how this will affect both rivers. Lets hope we have a good spawning, it will be March 2011 before you know it.

Richard.
