river torridge update: Wed 16th March
Hi folks: well the salmon season has certainly started with a bang. I have heard of at least 8 fresh fish being caught, with one as far upstream as Brimblecombe. John Graham, fishing a lower beat, hooked and landed a salmon in excess of 20lb and the following day Duncan Betts had a once in a lifetime day, landing three salmon all about 9lb. Peter Stemp, as well as catching a couple of kelts, caught a 7lb sea trout on a middle river beat. The dry spell continues and the river is now getting on the low side, but there is the possibility of good rain on Friday. I have given permission for a group of youngsters to kayak down the river on Saturday: they are doing it for charity: so if you happen to be on the river on Satutrday and see them you will know why.
