How to recognise a good fishing height on the South Tyne
The South Tyne at 4in (10cm) on the Gauge: Good for night-time sea trout but a bit low for salmon.
The South Tyne at 7in (17.5cm) on the Gauge: OK for salmon on fly.
The South Tyne at 1ft (30cm) on the Gauge: Very good for salmon on the fly.
The South Tyne at 2ft 4in+ (70cm) on the Gauge: Good for salmon and sea trout (during the day). Biggish flies and Spinning water.
