Smile beautiful 10+ lb salmon from the Thames Sept 2012

I have only just discovered this forum, hence the delay on reporting this catch.

I did indeed catch a salmon with rod & line from the Thames in September 2012.

It took a nicely presented lob worm right under the weir. Read the full story here:
A Salmon from the river Thames-Sept 2012 |

I haven't heard of any other rod caught salmon from the Thames in recent years & it certainly was a surprise to catch one.

Congrats on your catch!

Salmon are indeed rare in the Thames though a few are normally caught every year. They have been stocking the Thames system with salmon smolts for years (over 500,000 have been stocked in the last 10 years or so) in an attempt to get the run going. Most go into the Kennet tributary. Watch out for sea trout too!

All the best
