The Aunan beat is a superb fishery in the middle of the river run by ex-Norway and Liverpool football star Vegard Heggem.
The fishing
With 17 different pools, totalling 5.5km (3.4 miles), Aunan offers unrivalled length and variety on the Orkla.
Most of the pools are double bank fishing, and the fly fishing is excellent. The Orkla, which at Aunan is about the size of the Middle Dee, benefits from controlled flow from Hydro-electric dams along its length, which ensures that water levels are always suitable for fishing even in times of drought.
The dramatic scenery and the feeling of being close to nature are two major features of fishing at the Aunan. No major roads or railways will interfere with your experience of pure nature. Access to the beats is well marked with signed paths and a number of roofed resting places ("gapahuk").
A nice feature of fishing in Norway is the possibility of having a fire on the riverbank. To experience the purity of nature is an important part of salmon fishing and we put a lot of care into providing it.
The accommodation
Aunan offers a variety of very good standard lodging: providing for individual needs whilst also promoting a true camp atmosphere.
From 12 bedroomed Anfield Lodge with 4 twin bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, to the Barn the Painter and Kare Lodges with a total of 8 bedrooms (5 twins) and 4 bathrooms (2 people sharing 1 bathroom) - ample privacy is maintained.
Another feature is that all lodges are only a stone's throw from the Home Pool. Emphasis is placed on using local produce to provide for the three meals per day.
This is how Sandy Leventon, former editor of Trout & Salmon Magazine, describes the food at Aunan: "The food in the charming old potato store is tremendously good. We dined on roast saddle of reindeer, local lamb, pork and the best salmon I have ever tasted. The local strawberries, for which the area apparently is famous, were memorable. And on top of all this were the wonderful local cheeses. While food may be a minor consideration for many fishers, it is nice to have a good meal to look forward to after a hard day on the river."

Please note that when fishing in Norway, the fishing is booked for Monday to Saturday, however the price paid includes accommodation from the Sunday prior to fishing to the Sunday after fishing.
Tackle box:
- Fly rods should be 14-16 feet with action to suit #10 or #11 lines, floating lines, through to intermediate and sinking tips.
- Flies and tubes in patterns to suit individual preference. Flies size 6 -10 and tubes in all sizes are regularly used.
- Chest waders with felt soles, life jacket and wading stick recommended.
- Fishing: 12 rods, 15 pools, rod sharing is possible.
- Guides: Well established and good guide service.
