NATIONAL ADULT SALMON SAMPLING PROGRAMME

With better salmon catches, we have been sampling adult salmon on the lower River Tay as part of the National Adult Sampling Programme in conjunction with Marine Scotland and Fisheries Management Scotland.

The fish sampled so far have been a good class of salmon, but we expect grilse will start to figure large soon.

The fish are all tagged with numbered Floy tags before being released. This should provide further information on the movements of fish, should they be caught and reported.

Please also note, the presence of a tag shows that a fish has been in an anaesthetic and should not be killed and eaten in case the drug is not sufficiently withdrawn. Of course, we recommend that all fish are released anyway, so this warning should be somewhat academic.

So, please keep an eye out for tagged fish. The tag will be yellow in colour and positioned just along the dorsal (back) fin (see photo below). If you catch one, please note its number and let us know about it.
