The Salmon Atlas
The season opening on the Gaula is just 5 weeks away!

The winter is finally over! Even in Norway the spring begun. The snow is melting, and the Gaula Valley is beginning to bloom again. In a few weeks the NFC team will be back on the banks of our wonderful Gaula river and the salmon fever will catch overcome us once again!

While this winter has been another mild one in Norway, the snowpack is significantly greater than last year and the river has already risen up to around 180 m³ at Gaulfossen in recent days. While we may still get quite a bit of rain in the coming month, with less snowmelt, the water level should drop nicely towards the end of May! This means it also looks like the river will be in good shape for an early start meaning we should expect average water levels for the opening weeks, and if nothing unexpected happens – we can expect to see salmon running throughout the whole river system by 1st of June!
