This is a map that shows the percentage snow amount compared to the normal level 1971 – 2000.

Based on the present situation, most areas providing snow-melting water to the major rivers in Central Norway (Gaula, Orkla Stjørdal and Namsen) are well above the average level for the last 30 years. The situation in the High Arctic is even better where the Lakselv River in Finnmark County is around 100% above the average for this time of year.
With so much snow on the ground, we can expect wonderful amounts of snow-melt to keep our famous salmon rivers topped up during June when high water encourages the big fish to enter the rivers!
So this year could be a great opportunity to catch one of Norway’s famous large salmo! – if you bring your fishing equipment to a river in Central or Arctic Norway.
