Hello all
Another sunny, warm day here in Elgin as I spend short bursts at the laptop composing this weeks report. Healing bones are a slow, uncomfortable process, boring too for someone who prefers to be busy!! Never mind I have been spending short spells at the vice to keep my mind occupied.
This weather is certainly bringing the garden on, bursts of life everywhere, colours exploding and bringing a general good feeling to each day. With the weather as it is who would want to go overseas on holiday??
It has been a mixed week on the river with fluctuating water levels, coloured water and inclement weather conditions at time but when fishing in Scotland you would not expect anything less.
Lets see how the various beats fared.
Heading Upstream, Fochabers Angling Association got off the mark at long last with visiting angler Richard Eubank landing a fish of 14lb in the Quarry.
Gordon Castle/Brae Water had another tough week according to David Buley with difficult conditions, very unsettled for the first few days with dirty/peaty water. Dropping water and cloud cover brought a few fish then the lower, clear water towards the end of the week made things tougher again. 4 fish landed with a few lost.
Orton had a quiet week with only a couple of sea-trout encountered reports Andy Gunn.
Upstream at Delfur, Mark Melville reports a very mixed week of weather with rain, cold North winds, bright sun and 20c temperatures for Olivier Devictors party. However fish were caught everyday, Thursday being their best day with 4 fresh fish. A few dirty rises throughout the week didn’t help. Still not many fish seen, hopefully they appear soon.

Robbie Stronach at Rothes advises that they landed 8 for the week. Fishing got off to a good start on Monday with 4 landed then it was the odd fish till the end of the week . Last two days was harder going with the bright weather . A couple of the fish were sea liced which is good to see.

At Easter Elchies/Upper Arndilly, Orn Sigurhansson reports a week of cloudy water affecting taking fish. Success was had with changing flies, most notable by David McCreath Snr landing 2 fish in quick succession in Upper Dips on a Junction Gunn. Tied on a silver hook, the Junction Gunn is designed for murky water and is an evolution of the classic Willie Gunn, designed by adding some flash to the dressing. Pleased also regular fisher Peter Kidd landed a cracking 10lb fish

Craigellachie had a blank week, mainly down to the difficult conditions experienced during the week.
Kenny Davies at Aberlour Angling Club confirms that the rods there landed 4 salmon for the week, along with a couple of seatrout and their first grilse of the season.
Wester Elchies only success of the week fell to Henry Mountain in the Boat Pool.

Laggan ghillie, Mike Murdoch confirms that they landed 3 again this week, including our first grilse. The lift in water midweek should’ve been perfect for us, but things still quiet for the time of year!

At Kinermony Marcus Mitchell got the only fish for the week, on his third cast on Monday morning advises David Brand

At Knockando Home Beat, Archie Baillie reports another difficult week again with the rods seeing less fish as the week went on. The fish we caught were spread out over the week. We managed 6 salmon between 7lb and 11lb a mix of fresh and old. We also had 4 sea trout with the biggest being 8lb. It is so refreshing to see good sized sea-trout in the river.
Simon Crozier at Castle Grant reports a week of mixed weather and mixed fortunes. Fish were seen and caught across all the beats. Fluctuating water levels and hot bright conditions made thing difficult towards the end of the week. The Ewer party on Beat 2 saw some good sport with fish up to 21lbs and some sea-trout starting to show up. There was a first fish for Oliver Dawe-lane from Dunbar on Beat 3 . Sea trout are starting to be caught steadily at Kinchurdy with fish up to 7lb being caught last week. With settled conditions the sea-trout fishing should improve.
The Association water at Grantown is continuing its fine start to the season with a further 12 salmon to 16lbs being caught, with 6 of then being caught on Tuesday.
Abernethy had a quieter week with two fish of 9 & 10lbs.
What is next week going to bring us? A dry start is forecast but the end of the week appears to have a mixed feeling with rain and sunny intervals present but those out will take every opportunity to land a silver fish.
