Miðfjarðará report

SalmonAtlas
A fantastic season has come to an end in the Miðfjarðará in Iceland.
It has started to snow in the mountains and fall is here for sure.
Although it was not easy for the staff to pack and head back home just to wait for the next season, we hung our heads and packed our stuff..

The season ended in 4004 salmon landed for the 6 - 10 rods which makes the fishing in the Midfjardara one of the most productive salmon rivers in Iceland pr rod and by far the best natural salmon river in the country..

It is the best season ever in the Miðfjarðará and it´s also the first year that the river is fly only, and all the big fish have been
released.. Although we did not have a quota on salmon kept, we still
managed to release 74% of all the fish landed.. More big fish were seen, hooked and landed than so many years before, and to some it reminded them of the good old days when the river was full of MWS salmon.. This is what we plan to build up in the coming years for anglers to enjoy from around the world..

The lodge improvements were well taken by our clients. We plan to
work even further this winter to make the lodge more comfortable for our guests and to make it one of Iceland´s best lodges to visit..

After the season ended we kept on our mission to move fish from the Núpsá above the lower falls to make them spawn again.. Last year we did the same and it is the first time in 10 years that salmon have spawned above the falls.. This should improve the fishing in the Núpsá, lower East river and the Miðfjarðará it self..

Some pools were absolutely packed with fish when we closed down and probably there have never been as many salmon spawning in the Miðfjarðará river system before at the end of a season..

We want to thank all the great people that visited us this season and
enjoyed their time with us.. We look forward fishing with you in
2010...

Wild is the future.
