Tamar & Tributaries Update
The rivers finally seem to be dropping and, given a few more dry days, fishers should be back in waders. With all of this water of late, it's just as possible that the first salmon come from the middle reaches at Lifton and Launceston as on the lower river.
Trout fishers will hopefully finally get their teeth into some serious fishing, with a little milder weather required to get some hatches going.

Tamar & Tributaries Update
The main river and tributaries are all currently unfishable at the moment. Trout fishing has therefore been curtailed by excess water. With milder temperatures and (finally) the onset of spring, once the rivers drop we should see some great catches of brownies. On the salmon front, we have heard of a fish or two (as well as some very early peal) seen on the lower river and one hooked and lost on fly. If you have anything to report, please don't hesitate to add a comment in to this blog page.

Tamar & Tributaries Update
The trout season is now underway and the milder weather seems to have started to help. Some very good catches have been reported by the few anglers who have ventured out, mainly to deeply-fished nymphs on the tributaries. It's a little quiet on the salmon front, although at least one angler on the lower river reported seeing a salmon move and also an early peal. Let's hope the milder weather helps the river temperture climb!

The salmon season started yesterday, March 1st. Rather unsurprisingly, no fish have as yet been reported. We'd expect the first of the season to come in the latter part of the month from the lower river. In the meantime, prospects for grayling fishing are very good, with both the main river and tributaries running at a nicely fishable height.

Tamar system update
The heavy rain forecast for yesterday failed to materialise. The sky cleared and the air was noticeably mild and, with the pussy-willow breaking, we thought it could have been a spring day. Grayling to 36cm were caught on the Arundell beats on the Lyd on heavy nymphs fished deep. Lower river levels and milder conditions should see some keen fly fishers out on the Tamar to make the most of the final weeks of the grayling season. The salmon season kicks off on March 1st, with perhaps the very odd springer or two expected on the lower river towards the end of the month.

Rivers currently low and clear enough for grayling fishing. Some rain forecast for the coming week, which could rapidly colour the water and preclude fishing. Spring still seems a long way away, with winter birds such as egrets on the river, and a drake pochard on Tinhay lake. Midges were dancing in the sun yesterday, and Grannom will hatch by the end of this month. Snowdrops are in full bloom, and the wild garlic and daffodils are just poking through.

Tamar Update
With the current persistent rain, high water has meant that grayling fishing is currently not an option. Once the river drops back, keen folks will wrap up warm and head out. Tungsten headed bugs and nymphs fished under indicators will most likely be the best method, although - on a mild day - it's worth carrying a dry fly or two.
In the meantime, the evenings are drawing out... at last!
