Hi

Be interesting to hear about the Tyne's sea trout runs this year, have not heard of many being caught, than the usual amounts gone by, some say this is why the Riding Mill fish counter numbers are down, I don't know, but would be interesting to know. Fellow anglers even say their sea trout catches are well down on other seasons to.

Hi Jon

Can you imagine what the sea trout catch would have been on the Tyne and the Wear had the nets not been operating off the Yorkshire and Northumberland coasts? In 2008 these nets took 24,865 sea trout! These fish averaged 4.1lb.

This year the sea trout run has been poor - which is no surprise given this level of netting exploitation.

Sea trout of the Tyne (and the north east region) are mostly (70%+) three years old - 4lb maiden spawners. Wonderful sport but easy prey to the coastal nets.
